Articulating Beauty

A collection of sights and sounds that capture small moments of beauty.

I'm a woman living in the Witch City. I love vintage clothing, strong coffee, heart-to-heart conversations, frolicking with friends, and the warm sun on my face.

I am in love.
I give love.
You are loved.

A change in direction can take you anywhere. Where do you want to go? Which way will you turn? How will you get there? What will you do, once there?

The answers are so easy and yet…….

What if I turn left today?

Taxpayers should get a receipt so they know what they’re paying for, a think tank called Third Way argues in a new paper.
Here’s a sample from the group. It includes federal income tax and FICA, which funds Medicare and Social Security. Details are here.
Thanks For Paying Taxes. Here’s A Receipt. : Planet Money : NPR

We printed an article by Ethan Porter, managing editor of Democracy, about getting a receipt for the taxes you pay in the July-August issue of Utne Reader. Hooray!

I see some major imbalances there.  I would move education up higher than the fucking dismal IRS, if not even national forests.
You can educate kids to care about trees and shit, and then they will naturally want to conserve them.  Which also takes care of your “environmental clean up” project at $11 per head.  Sheesh.

Ivory Miniature of the Empress Josephine by Ferdinand Quaglia, 1814
This portrait must have been done quite close to Josephine’s death.  She passed on May 29, 1814 at the age of 51.  I love that she looks fashionable as ever, dignified and proud.

Josephine Bonaparte
1812, Firmin Massot

I’ve found a few new portraits of Josephine.  Seems that portraits by lesser-known painters are starting to surface.  This is wonderful!
Josephine had been divorced for two years when she sat for this portrait and would have been living in Malmaison, alone.  Napoleon was divorced from her, invading Russia and retreating from Moscow in defeat.
